Yoke of Yeshua

Updated: May 12, 2020

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be. exalted in the earth. ~stillness~

Psalms 46:10

Matthew 11:28-30 - “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  30  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. ~rest~ These are the two bible verses the Lord has laid on my heart during this period of time. To be still and know that He is God, in the midst of this chaotic pandemic. Though the world is changing, His word stays true. Where will I fixate my eyes? Prior to this pandemic, our generation for a long time now have been consumed by a capitalist world. A world where productivity and checklists are what fuels our days. Although this capitalism surely was not limited to the economy and our surroundings, it unfortunately settled within our minds. It became a mindset. Being busy became good, we liked looking busy even if it costed us the stillness of our souls. *whispers* stop running We now find ourselves in a place where we are forced to stay inside. Your routines, checklists have been put on pause. You are locked-out from the busyness and are put in a new place. As humans, of course our first instinct will be to find a new routine which works well for us, which there’s nothing wrong with. Although now that we have been removed from the stressful outside, why must we welcome the culture of ‘hurry’ into our homes? R E S T The issue is not the outside world, but instead it’s which “yoke” you choose to adopt. His yoke is easy, and His burden is light. I now know that I will be okay in whichever environment I’m placed in, for I take up the yoke of Christ. Instead of carrying the burden of the world on your shoulders, cast all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).

How amazing is it that someone willingly wants to take up all your burdens, anxiety, fear, stress and busyness to replace it with His yoke, where you’ll find rest for your souls? Whilst this is available for you and me, we still often fall into the trap of believing our burdens are our own. They’re not.

I hope this blog post has somewhat been a reminder of His wonderful grace and gentle character. I will leave you with this encouraging passage to reflect on: “ 16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.  17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.  18  So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal - 2 Corinthians 4:16.
